Cuisine that you eat often or that is dear to your heart is the hardest to write about. I love Mediterranean cuisine. Jack's Wife Freda is a delight and there are a few locations. The coffee and shakshuka are pretty good. The cocktail list looks enticing. All in all, if you are in a pinch, this is a great option. There are not many differentiating factors that would make me crave it or count the days until I go again, but it did not leave me disappointed.
If you love Mexican cuisine and tacos, you have to try these. Every type of taco is spectacular. They do not put too many different types of food inside the taco, but each has a flavorful punch. There are a few locations in the city, so there is no excuse! One of the most popular places to find these tacos is in Chelsea Market.
Walking down 7th avenue in the West Village, you are going to come across Rafele. They have a huge outdoor patio section and a big inside as well. I went here for my birthday dinner last August while my family was still trying to social distance. We were able to sit at a table off to the side in our own private patio section. It was perfect. The menu had a lot of options, making it difficult to decide what to order. It ended up ordering the Pappardelle alla Bolognese. It was very flavorful and pappardelle is one of my favorite types of pasta. I would recommend this spot to a friend and come back.
Move Industry Kitchen to the top of your list. They seriously got everything exactly right. We went during Winter Restaurant Week 2022 and sat outside in our own little tent. The ambiance was romantic, but I did see a lot of groups as well. We ordered the pistachio lamb and burrata salad as appetizers, the steak & potatoes for our entrees, and we finished it off with the crème brulee and chocolate mousse for dessert. Every bite was a little taste of heaven. Appetizer: Burrata Salad Appetizer: Pistachio Lamb Entree: Steak & Potatoes Dessert: Crème Brulee Dessert: Chocolate Mousse
The first time I realized I love Mezcal. I ordered "El Mixteco" which is Hibiscus-infused el silencio mezcal, lemon juice, damiano flower agavero liquer, and agave nectar. Wow. It was so refreshing and smoking simultaneously. For the meal, I ordered Enchiladas Suizas. Again, wow. I would definitely recommend.
A great reason to eat a burrito. These flavors. These combinations. I was sad when I finished my meal. I wish I had time to go back and try some more of their menu items. I ordered the Adobo O.G. bowl and my boyfriend ordered the Adobo-rito. Both were amazing.
Pizza. But amazing pizza. They have such unique flavors. We ordered "The Colony" which is pepperoni, pickled chili, and honey. We split one pizza between us and it was just enough food. Don't sleep on the sandwiches. Another night, we ordered "The Nashville Hot Katsu" sandwich which is Nashville hot chicken, 'Bama white sauce, pickles, greens, and radish on a pretzel bun. It was incredible... very messy, but incredible.
This was the best addition to our block. Their breakfast sandwich is a little expensive and you need to order with double egg in order to be satisfied, but damn it is good. Their hot sauce is incredible. I am so angry that we did not buy a bottle before we moved. Great addition to the neighborhood.
I went here for a friends' birthday dinner. The ambiance was perfect. We got our table next to the window which had a lot of space between tables. The drinks were perfect. The service was wonderful. The menu made it difficult to decide what to order because everything looked so good. I do not think any of us left feeling disappointed. It was a great meal. I would definitely go again.
I cannot resist a good crepe. I will buy one every single time I walk past, which made MacDougal street very dangerous for me once I discovered Creperie. They have so many different types of crepes, but I always ordered a sweet one, filled with chocolate. Each time I ordered, it was heaven in every bite. Run, don't walk to get yours.
Do you ever walk past a place 100 times before you actually stop by? This was us and Cotenna. This restaurant sat on our old block and finally, a week before we moved, we got to go. The quality of food was amazing. We sat outside and the ambiance was not as nice as it could have been. The food was exquisite, but the portions were a little small. I ordered one of the specials: Truffle Gnocchi. I thought it was divine and I was full after eating my meal. Overall, it was a great meal and we were very satisfied. Since there are so many Italian restaurants in the city, I am not sure we will ever return.
People always talk about Insomnia, but how are they sleeping on Chip City? A delicious Insomnia alternative to a big, chunky cookie. This cookie, also like Levain Bakery, is hard to eat in one sitting because it is so rich. They have a lot of interesting flavors and are definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in the West Village.
