New York City Drinks: Wine Bars Reviewed

A Guide to My Favorite Wine Bars in New York City

When picking any wine bar, I think first you have to decide if you really like nice wine, or you just want a glass of wine.  My new opinion about wine bars is that I always leave hungry because their “bites” are just that, one bite.  The wine is amazing, but expensive because it is better quality.

In my opinion, if you want a romantic night, a small meal, and a glass of wine, order an appetizer at a restaurant.  Their appetizer will probably be the same cost as a “bite” and fill you up more.

Having a nice date at a wine bar, in theory, is a good idea, but every time we do it, we regret it.  For couples who care more about their wine than the food, this was a great wine bar and I would definitely recommend it.

Rooftop Reds

Neighborhood: Navy Yards *Brooklyn
Ambiance:

Did you know there is a winery in NYC? I did not before this Summer.  We went to Rooftop Reds in Brooklyn and were pleasantly surprised.  Finding the rooftop is a little unnerving because it is in the Navy Yards.  You will feel like you are lost, but trust the process!  Once you get up to the roof, it is like a dream.  There are vines and cute picnic tables.

The day we selected happened to be in the high nineties with a sprinkle of thunderstorms.  Needless to say, check the weather before you go to a rooftop.  We had fun running from the raindrops anyways!

Drinks:

We ordered some flights so we could try a few types of the wines.  I enjoyed all of them.  It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Getting there is a bit tricky, but once you are in, it is worth it.  Make sure you make a reservation.

Lena Wine Bar

Neighborhood: West Village
Ambiance:

When we showed up at Lena’s Wine Bar around 7pm, it was empty.  The waitress joked that we could pick any spot in the bar.  We sat right near the window.  Not even 5 minutes later, the place was packed.  You could make it romantic if you want to or you can make it super casual for a group.

Drinks:

The wine selection was good and the ambiance was a friendly, local wine bar.   We were happy with the taste and prices of their wines.  I would recommend this spot to anyone in the neighborhood.

Overall Rating: 10/10

One of the better wine bars we have been to.  The staff was friendly and the wines were refreshing.
