Denver: Spotlight on the Best Food

When we visited Denver in 2021, we ate out for every meal because we were staying in a hotel.  I am going to include some of those spots here because they were noteworthy.  Denver offers a variety of food and cuisines which I was impressed by.

Restaurants

Snooze A.M. Eatery.

Location: Denver & Boulder
Year Visited: 2021
Cuisine: American
Overall Rating: 10/10

We loved Snooze AM so much that we ate there at least twice.  Honestly, I think we ordered from there three times.  We were not disappointed with anything from the menu.  Even though it is a local chain, it is definitely worth eating at.

Aloy Thai Cuisine

Location: Boulder
Year Visited: 2021
Cuisine: Thai
Overall Rating: 9/10

I remember thoroughly enjoying our meal here.  The ambiance in the restaurant was really cute and we were tucked away in our own corner.  We ate here for lunch, so the place was not packed.  I’d imagine it is super busy for dinner.

Tocabe, An American Indian Eatery

Location: North Denver
Year Visited: 2021
Cuisine: American Indian
Overall Rating: 9/10

Although it is out of the way from popular Denver neighborhoods, Tocabe is worth trying.  The setup is similar to Chipotle where you pick your meat and then add in toppings, but all of the ingredients are authentic to the American Indian culture.  Noteworthy: One of their meat options is bison.

Osteria Marco

Location: Larimer Square
Year Visited: 2021
Cuisine: Italian
Overall Rating: 9/10

We chose this restaurant because it was part of Larimer Square.  With a seat outside, we were able to people-watch and it was a really cool experience.  We ordered the assorted cheese plate and it was worth it.  I also really enjoyed my pasta.

Avanti Food & Beverage

Location: Highland
Year Visited: 2021
Cuisine: Many Types
Overall Rating: 10/10

Avani is a sports bar with a cool view.   There are several food vendors that feel similar to a fancy food court.  This place gets packed early, so be ready to wait in line for food or for a table.

Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q

Location: Colorado Springs
Year Visited: 2022
Cuisine: BBQ
Overall Rating: 7/10

BBQ is becoming a type of food that we are picky about.  Rudy’s was good, but it was not worth waiting on the enormous line (at an off-peak time).  I need to stop thinking that anyone’s brisket is going to be better than my fathers.  It has not happened yet.

Take Out

Cheba Hut

Location: Denver (Many Locations)
Year Visited: 2021 + 2022
Cuisine: Sandwiches
Overall Rating: 9/10

If you enjoy subs, you have to try Cheba Hut.  The menu is extensive and we have not had a sandwich we didn’t like.

Wild Taco

Location: Capitol Hill
Year Visited: 2022
Cuisine: Mexican
Overall Rating: 9/10

When we drove to pick up our food, we were nervous that the hype surrounding Wild Taco would be because of the restaurant décor and ambiance.  I am so happy we were wrong.  Their burritos were so amazing and worth the money.  If we were going to eat here again, we would make reservations because the restaurant was so cute.

Wokano Asian Bistro

Location: Capitol Hill
Year Visited: 2022
Cuisine: Asian Fusion
Overall Rating: 10/10

We ordered from here several times during our six weeks in Denver.  Everything we ordered was fantastic.  Denver is the first location we visited where our Asian cravings were satisfied.

Beyond Thai Cafe

Location: Denver

Year Visited: 2022

Cuisine: Thai
Overall Rating: 10/10

Another takeout winner.  My review is the same as Wokano Asian Bistro.

Challenge

Take time to drive to the unique location that may be a little farther out.  They are worth it.
